Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Situated about 600m south of Burnside of Shenval steading there are the remains of a hut-circle, which measures about 11m in diameter. The surrounding area is littered with stone clearance heaps, probably representing a network of cultivation plots, which may be contemporary with the hut-circle.

Archaeology Notes

NJ23NE 7 2640 3765.

At NJ 2640 3765 is a circular stone-walled hut under a heavy growth of peat. It measures about 11.0m in diameter between the centres of a wall spread to an indeterminate width. The ill-defined entrance is in the E. The hut falls in an area of stone clearance heaps, probably from contemorary cultivation plots details of which are masked by peat and heather.

Surveyed at 1/10560.

Visited by OS (A A) 6 April 1971.
