The town of Grant - now Grantown - was made a burgh of regality by charter of 1694 AD, and entitled to a market cross.

No trace and no local knowledge of a market cross at Grantown.

Visited by OS (N K B) 2 September 1966.

Centred NJ 0374 2984. This is the site of the hamlet of Old Grantown first mentioned in the 16th century, and depopulated by about 1823. The old Market Cross stood here until 13th June, 1766, when it was removed to the new town (Grantown - 0327) but not noted again since that date.
