Near the site of the lighthouse at Tarbat Ness is the foundation of a monument, built, it is said, by the Romans as a landmark.
New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845.
Carn a'Bhodaich, a turf-covered mound c.8.0m in diameter and 0.8m high, with a content of rounded beach stones visible in two small mutilations. Possibly a cairn, but could be a beacon stance. Not Roman.
Re-surveyed at 1/2500.

This mound is as described above. The association of its name with the nearby ruined mound of Carn na Cailliche (NH98NW 15 ) (the names presumably meaning 'Cairn of the old man' and 'Cairn of the old Woman) points to the probability of a recent date, and possible uses as beacon stances or landmarks.

A mound of earth and stones measuring 8m in diameter and standing 0.8m high has been identified as a possible cairn, but it is probably a beacon stance of no great age.
