NH95NE 8 c. 99 55

A bronze flat axe 5 5/8" long by 3" across the cutting face, found in the neighbourhood of Darnaway (NH 99 55) was purchased for the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1902.

A decorated, flat bronze axe (Coles' type Bb) found near Darnaway (Darnaway Castle: NH 994 550) is in RMS (NMAS) under accession number DA 69.

J M Coles 1971; I C Walker 1974.

(Biggar variant of Migdale type). Single find. Flat axe, porous cleaned surface, sides and faces appear hammered. Length 145mm, butt 21mm, cutting edge 76mm, weight 232 gms. NMAS DA 69.
