Field Visit (27 March 2019)

This bracken- and grass-grown weapons pit, which is situated on a SSE-facing slope 17m WSW of the crew shelter associated the Western Gun Battery No.1 (NH86NW 9.6), formed part of the defences of the battery introduced by the Army during World War 2. It is roughly rectangular on plan and comprises a trench measuring 4.7m from NE to SW by 2.4m transversely and up to 0.4m deep, with the upcast shaped into a spread protective bank on the SE and SW.
