Field Visit (28 March 2019)
This building is situated on a grass-grown platform cut back into the steep S-facing slope immediately NNW of the barracks (NH86NW 9.36) to a depth of up to 1.5m. All that now remains of it is its concrete floor which measures 3m from E to W by at least 2m transversely over a with chamfered edges. Metal straps and bolts for a sill-beam indicate that there was once a timber superstructure. A step at the S end of the E side marks the position of a doorway, while a channel on the SSW runs to a drain at the same corner. The natural slope at the E end of the platform is retained by a concrete wall, 0.3m thick, which reduces in height from the rear to ground-level at the front of the building.
The building is shown upon plans of the North Sutor held by the National Archives at Kew (WO78/5192), one of which is dated to 1 May 1913.
