Activities

Field Visit (20 February 2020)

A rush-grown concrete platform, which is situated immediately SW of the military road (NH86NW 11.33) that led NW from Site No.4 to Site No.3, is all that now remains of a building that once formed part of the infrastructure of the battery introduced by the Admiralty in the First World War. It measures 8.3m from NW to SE by 3.9m transversely.

The building is annotated ‘Garage’ on a plan of the battery in the Fort Record Book held in the National Archives at Kew (WO78/5192 18/19). It is also visible on an RAF aerial photograph (Scot 106G-DY-0025-6011) flown on 21 September 1944 and another (SCOT 106G-RAF-0751-6036) flown on 31 August 1945.

Visited by HES, Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK), 20 February 2020.
