Archaeology Notes

NH75NE 8009 c. 76 55

N57 34.5 W4 4.0

NLO: Fort George [name: NH 762 567].

Possibly on map sheet NH75SE.

(Classified as 1914 Navyplane Seaplane: serial number cited as 155, and date of loss as 8 April 1915). This aircraft was wrecked and lost in a gale whilst anchored at [off] Fort George. Registration: British.

(Location of loss cited as N57 34.5 W4 4.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative, being derived from the unverified location of loss that is cited by Whittaker. The aircraft was presumably blown ashore from moorings.

The major artillery fortification of Fort George (NH75NE 3.00) is at NH 76079 56674.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 26 November 2007.
