Field Visit (25 June 2013 - 25 June 2013)

Bridge abutments - NH30SE 9.02 at NH 33851 03569 Stone built curved abutments are seen on both sides of the canal. The abutments are built as 2 curved walls with apparently earth and stone infill forming a road surface. They are c.1.5m high at canal end grading back to ground level. The narrow end is c.3m wide, inland c.7m wide.

At the canal end the wall is also curved to allow for the fit of the swing bridge.

The 2 opposing abutments are the only remaining features of the original swing bridge. The E side is unpainted but presently the W abutment is white painted with black capstones.
