Activities

Field Visit (4 September 2019)

The public road (B8057) on the E side of Loch Ewe leading N from Cove originally ended roughly 500m short of Rubha nan Sasan before the coastal battery was introduced at the beginning of the Second World War. As the extension that was then built approached the ridge to its S, a branch diverted NW to serve the camp buildings situated near the present carpark (NG 81417 92062). A second branch headed N from the end of the road (NG 81501 92015). This followed the present track to the location of the Russian monument (NG89SW 19) to where it terminated above the NW gun emplacement (NG 81485 92126).
