Archaeology Notes

NG29SW 8025 c. 24 94

N57 51 W6 39

NLO: Scalpay (Scalpaigh) [name centred NG 23 95]

Loch an Tairbeairt [name centred NG 188 962].

Possibly on map sheets NG19NW, or NG29NW.

(No classification, cargo or date of loss cited). Unknown: on Skerry of Sgeir Graidach, N of Eugenie Rock. Copper pins 150 metres SE [of the] beacon tower.

(Location of loss cited as N57 47.33 W6 28.25).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative, the location cited by Whittaker being unconvinicing and corresponding to no mapped feature.. Neither Skerry of Sgeir Graidach nor Eugenie Rock is noted on the 1997 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map.

The 'beacon tower' that is mentioned by Whittaker is presumably to be equated with Eilean Glas Lighthouse (NG29SW 1.00), at NG 24743 94715.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 7 July 2008.
