Archaeology Notes

ND49SW 14 4384 9023.

Situated at ND 4384 9023 on the summit of Kirkie Hill is a circular turf-covered cairn, 7.5m in diameter and 0.7m high. An excavation about 1.0m circular and 0.6m deep in the centre has revealed the interior of earth and stones but there is no trace of a cist.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (ISS) 2 May 1973.

Activities

Field Visit (15 April 1994)

This bowl-shaped cairn was visited during the Orkney Barrows Project. It measures 5.6m by 5.4m and 0.4m in height. A coursed interior was notred. It is visible for a kilometre in all directions.
