A mound about 8ft 6ins high, in which partial excavation about 1912 revealed fragments of carefully built walls in a space measuring 9ft long by 4ft 4ins wide and 3ft deep. The excavation was too limited to establish the nature of the remains but it was probably not a broch.
RCAHMS 1946
The Green Hill of Scarton is a large amorphous mound with a small excavation as described by the Commission. Further excavation on its east side has revealed walling c.4.0m long and 1.0m high, which appears to form a corner of a beehive-shaped cell. Probably the remains of a settlement (cf. HY22NE 6 and HY32SE 6, which are possibly Iron Age). Resurveyed at 1/2500.

The mound is extensive, and big enough to contain a broch
with associated settlement. There are however no visible
features, the site being heavily overgrown with long grass. This
will require a further visit when the vegetation is down.

At the edge of the banks 600m NE from Osmondwall cemetery is a large mound some 2.5m high, surrounded by an extensive area of heavily disturbed ground. Although in summer the site is too deep in long grass for close examination, it is suggestive of a broch with associated outbuildings.
