On the N-facing slope of West Hill, some 40m S of a secondary loop road, W of the military cinema (ND39SW 49) there is a barrage balloon mooring site. One ring of fixing bolts was found and the central area, where lush grass was growing, probably concealed the central point. The bases of two huts are still discernable in rough grass and heather immediately N of the mooring position.
The site is visible on vertical air photographs (RAF LEU/UK 4, 7054, flown 17 April 1948 and Fairey Surveys Ltd 7343 43 296-7, flown 1975).
