NLO: Keiss [name: ND 347 612]

Sinclair's Bay [name centred ND 36 56].

See also ND35SE 8081.

Wick, 8th Dec., two ships' nameboards have been picked up in this vicinity, one at Keiss, marked "SMARAGD", the other at Irisgoe, marked "FLORIDA". The letters on both boards are in gilt on a black ground.

Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 19,543, London, Tuesday December 12 [1876].

NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4484).

(No classification or cargo specified: date cited as 8 December 1876). Smaradg: nameboard washed ashore near Keiss.

(Location cited as N58 32.0 W3 7.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary, being derived from the reported location of discovery of wreckage. The date cited is also presumably that of report, rather than loss. The vessel presumably foundered out at sea, possibly beyond Scottish waters.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 4 October 2004.
