Archaeology Notes

ND35SE 103.22 36950 51826

A small square pillbox has been identified from WW II RAF vertical air photographs (NLA 57, 5076-5076A, flown 21 February 1943), in the corner of a field about 124m S of the stand-by set house (ND35SE 103.04).

The evidence from the photogrpahs would suggest that this pillbox had formerly been within a barbed-wire enclosure, but by 1943 this had been removed to accommodate the construction of a Nissen hutted camp which was situated immediately to the W.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), November 2004.
