Archaeology Notes

ND35SE 103.19 3660 5297

A pillbox possibly a type 27, has been identified from a WW II RAF oblique aerial photograph (NLA 24, 0.4, flown 26 November 1941) on the northern perimeter of the airfield about 300m SE of the main bomb store. The pillbox was demolished during the alterations to the airfield between 1942-43, to provide increased dispersal areas for aircraft later in the war.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), September 2004.
