Archaeology Notes

ND34SW 206 33401 44411

The site of this building, which is marked by a rectangular stance, is situated in a field of pasture 205m W of Gansclet farmsteading and immediately N of a disused quarry (ND34SW 204). The stance measures 6.4m from E to W by 3.4m transversely overall and is bounded everywhere except the E end by a low grass-grown stony bank 0.8m in thickness. The E end is formed by a low, E-facing scarp. There is no building depicted here on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix).
