Archaeology Notes

ND34NW 87 33920 45598

Nothing is visible of this small quarry, and its site lies in the corner of a cultivated field 60m NW of Upper Thrumster farmsteading. The pit is depicted water-filled on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix); the 2nd edition of the map (1907, sheet xxix) shows a small rectangular enclosure here, probably a fence around the disused pit.

Visited by RCAHMS (ATW), 29 July 2004.
