Archaeology Notes

NC96NE 26 c. 96 65.

There was a little hill called 'the Wild Cats hill or Torn-na, cat fiaghick' between Reay and the sea which, when the sand was cleared from it by the wind, was found to contain several stone coffins, in each corner of which was an earthen jug with some ashes in it. There are some to be seen to this day.

W Macfarlane 1906-8

There is no local knowledge of 'Wild Cats Hill'. The area between Reay and the sea (NC 96 65) consists mainly of grass-covered sand dunes and these cists have probably been covered over.

Visited by OS (N K B) 25 November 1964.
