Archaeology Notes

NC80SW 6 8360 0295.

NC 8360 0295. A cave, in which the RCAHMS in 1909 could see evidence of human habitation, although none is now visible.

The entrance is in the NE side of a depression caused by a sunken water course, and a flight of laid steps, of unknown date, 1.7m long, but probably formerly more extensive, descends to it from the SW. The cave consists of a lofty gallery about 3 to 4ft wide and about 20ft long at the end of which a narrow passage turns sharply to the right and enters an extensive area of the hill which is of interest to pot-holers. Surveyed at 1:2500.

RCAHMS 1911, visited 1909; Visited by OS (J M) 29 October 1975.
