Archaeology Notes

NB43SE 10.02 centred 44932 33310

Examination of a series of vertical air photographs taken early in 1946 (106G/Scot/UK 103, frames 3259-3262; 4152-4155, flown 19 May 1946), has identified the main technical site, several dispersed domestic sites, an area of aircraft hangars, with buildings and huts.

The bomb or ammunition store is visible on frames 3260-3262 in an area annotated as 'Blar Buidhe' on the current OS digital maps. The store is visible as a line of four bays with a long building immediately to the S. The depiction on the modern maps shows that the area has been re-used for another purpose.
