Among the artefacts found during the excavation of Area 3 was a small oval bead of clear green glass, with raised yellow/green applied dots and pierced longitudinally with copper alloy tubing (excavation ref no RF 122). It has been scientifically analysed by Mr Julian Henderson - results given in Table 15, p. 220 - and it can be placed in the 1st millenium AD technical tradition, possibly the second half of that millenium. It is now in Tankerness Museum, Kirkwall (See illus 173 for photograph).
