Archaeology Notes

HY22NW 1.02 2399 2850

Two cross-slabs have been found in the enclosure around the chapel. The first was found close to the south wall of the enclosure, about 14ft E from the site of the Pictish symbol stone (HY22NW 1.01). This was a narrow tapering slab, bearing at each end an incised wheel-headed cross with tapering limbs. The second slab was found 6ft SE of the SE corner of the chancel. This bore in its upper half a rudely incised cross with an open-ended shaft little longer than the limbs. These were slightly concave at their outer edges. At their intersections were segmental hollows. At the crossing of the arms there was an incised circle.

RCAHMS 1946.
