Archaeology Notes

HU31NE 50.02 centred 39883 19109

The accommodation camp for the two radio stations (HU31NE 50.00 and HU31NE 50.01 ) is visible on vertical air photographs (541[A]/390, 3012-3013, flown 18 May 1948). The camp is situated at the NW end of a track leading to Upper Lingarth farmsteading where it joins the A 970 road.

About 40 huts in two groups, can be seen on the photographs, suggesting a possible division between male and female accommodation. Hut bases are depicted at this location on the current OS 1:2500 scale digital map.
