Old Windmill [NAT]

OS (GIS) MasterMap, July 2009.

(Location cited as NX 095 522). Windmill. A short tapering rubble tower. Donnachie suggests that it was the base of a turret post mill, which seems reasonable.

J R Hume 1976.

A round tower, possibly the base of a turret-post mill or a wind-driven scutch mill, stands on a low knoll 242m NE of Low Culgroat farmhouse. It is 3.3m high and measures 2.4m in diameter within a wall 0.55m thick; a doorway is located on the N side.

I L Donnachie and N K Stewart 1964; I Donnachie 1971; J R Hume 1976; G Douglas, M Oglethorpe and J R Hume 1984; RCAHMS 1985, visited August 1984.
