Insc: (first page) 'PARKINS/GOTTO' (1887-1891) Album of professional prints by G.W.Wilson and J.Valentine plus snapshots of the Southern Mediterranean, Germany, Paris, Isle of Wight and castles, bridges, towns of Scotland, including Shetland, Orkney, Pittenweem, St Monans and Drummond Castle from the gardens. There is a photograph of the SS Patua ?; a group in the Consul's garden Shanghai showing five European men and one woman with four Chinese people, probably servants; Dr Palin, Frances and Fergus with horses; and several tennis parties, at Mrs Kennedy's, 1887 and at St Leonards, 1891. c. 1876 Batch Level

Two similar volumes are in the Mitchell Library, Glasgow - this one has '701-928' impressed in gold on the front cover. Purchased from William Hardie. 19th century photographs presumed to be by Thomas Annan, the subjects mainly of architectural interest are pasted in six to a page in alphabetical order until p36; then another lot, mainly of Glasgow buildings are added on verso going back to p26v - all numbered in pencil from 701 to 986. c. 1880 Batch Level

Photograph Album No 201: VALENTINE & SONS Dark green hard-backed cloth-covered album of 25 paper pages folded and slotted (slightly crookedly) to take photographs on both sides. The front cover is titled in gold 'Valentine & Sons Ltd, Photographs'. All the photographs are by Valentine but not all the pages are used and many pictures have more than one copy. All places are in Argyll or Dunbartonshire. BUT 2 coloured photographs (not J.V.) are in New Zealand. c. 1900 Batch Level
