Two conjoined rectilinear enclosures, several probable field boundaries and a patch of rig have been recorded on oblique aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 2000) on level ground about 570m W of Dunninald Castle. Some of the linear features recorded to the S of an overgrown pond may relate to a farmstead depicted as roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Forfarshire 1865, Sheet xxxv) and named as Crookward.
