The office building is a polychrome-brick (painted white), single-storeyed gabled range, with a slate roof and round arched windows. It also has a bracketed wallhead of moulded bricks. It is significant because it is typical of the surface buildings at the two Polmaise collieries (Nos. 1 & 2 and 3 & 4) and is the last surviving example of these. It is due to be demolished in Autumn 1995, after Caledonian Marts move their administration to the new purpose-built offices immediately to the W of this building.

Visited by RCAHMS (MKO), 6 September 1995.
