NS57SW 44 5153 7233.

NS 5153 7233. A Roman distance slab was ploughed up on Cleddans farm in March 1969 at the western end of Hutcheson Hill (exact location measurements given), presumably close to the spot where it originally stood. Of sandstone, it measures 37" wide, 30" high and 6" thick. Its edges are chipped but the carving is remarkably well preserved and reads:- For the Emperor Caesar Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Augustus Pius, father of his country, a detachment of the XX Legion Valeria Victrix built 3000 ft (of the Wall). It is now on display in the Hunterian Museum.
