The pit and traces of clay pipe associated with a threshing mill were found behind Stonebyres Farm during construction work.
T C Welsh 1970.
Nothing is now visible of the pit, which was found, along with traces of clay pipe, when construction work was being undertaken about 1970 (Welsh 1970, 42). The original account does not state exactly where the pit was located and the owners of the farm cannot now recall where the work took place. Neither the 1st nor the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Renfrewshire 1863, sheet XIX; 1899, sheet XIX.NE) depicts a lade or provides a clue as to where the threshing mill might have been situated within the steading.
