Ordnance survey maps show that there were two developments of gas works in Selkirk.

The six-inch First Edition (Selkirk) shows a 'Gas Works' with two gasometers and associated buildings at the junction of what is now Muthag Street and Mill Street (NT42NE 404).

The second edition of the OS County series 1:2,500 scale map (1860) depicts the gasworks slightly further south (NT42NE 43) with the addition of two large gasometers. the third edition of the OS County series 1:2,500 scale map (1900-1949) shows only the two large gasometers remaining.
