CFA Archaeology reported that stripping work on the fourth floor at 85-87 Southbridge exposed a blocked door to a disused Link Bridge that formed a covered pedestrian walkway linking Nos. 85-87 with No.79 Southbridge. It is thought to have been constructed c.1929-30 when both properties were under the ownership of J and R Allan, & Co. Edinburgh a large clothing store.

Information from Peter McKeague (Historic Environment Scotland) 16 August 2016.
