Scope and Content Canna harbour and the Roman Catholic Church of St Edward the Confessor, Sanday, Highland Canna and Sanday lie to the north-west of Rum, between Skye and the Outer Hebrides. They are the westernmost of the Small Isles and form part of the Small Isles National Scenic Area. They were gifted to the National Trust for Scotland in 1981 by the late Dr J L Campbell. This view shows the ruins of the 19th century township of Greod on Sanday (centre), part of Canna harbour (top left) and the deconsecrated Roman Catholic Church of St Edward the Confessor (right). A map of 1805 shows seven houses at Greod, to the south of the rocky knoll of Creag Liath (centre). These may well have belonged to the crofters of Lag a' Bhaile on Canna, who were moved to Sanday to work in the kelp or fishing industries. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
