Description View from SW showing ground floor offices and first floor house of station building

Date 14/8/1970

Catalogue Number SC 766528

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Pinmore Station, South Ayrshire This shows the station building from the south-west. It has a dwelling house on the first floor, hence the retention of this structure after the end of passenger services. It is built of brick. The south-bound platform is still in place, but the loop and north-bound platform have gone. At the time this railway was built, Portpatrick was the port for the short crossing of the Irish Sea. It was subsequently supplanted by Stranraer, and this line has been retained to serve the ferry pier as well as the town, which is the largest in Wigtownshire. This station was on the Girvan & Portpatrick Railway, opened in 1877. The line ran though difficult country, and was single-track, with passing places, one of which was at this station, which served a scattered rural community. The station closed in the 1960s, and the loop was removed. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
