Scope and Content Former duty free warehouses from south-west, Knockando Distillery, Moray Knockando Distillery was founded in 1898 by the Knockando-Glenlivet Distillery Company but closed 1900-4. The floor maltings were discontinued in 1968, and the works were renovated in 1969, when the number of stills was increased from two to four. Distillate for blending is matured elsewhere, but Knockando single malt is matured on the premises. This shows the conference and hospitality suite which is housed in an old rubble-built warehouse. Casks of whisky were matured here until they reached the required colour and flavour. A crane for lifting casks stands in front of the building. The gardens have been landscaped and planted with shrubs and flowers. This suite is used for welcoming guests and foreign spirit importers. It contains a wardrobe of 40 kilts which visitors are encouraged to dress in while relaxing and sampling the products available. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
