Scope and Content Warehouse, No 81 Waterloo Quay, Aberdeen This warehouse was probably built in the 1870s or 80s to house goods in transit through the Victoria Dock, completed in 1848, whose northern quay wall is only a few yards from this building. In 1970 it was owned by the Aberdeen Steam Navigation Co, who may have built it. This shows the frontage of the warehouse from the south west. Note the absence of hoists on the face of the building, and the large cart entries, which imply the existence of a rear courtyard or courtyards for handling goods. Though the railway from the south reached Aberdeen in 1850 shipping remained as effective competitor with rail for certain traffics until the 1950s and 60s. This type of warehouse was, however obsolete by 1970s. Its present status is unknown. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
