Scope and Content Warehouse, Scotland's Close, Bo'ness, Falkirk This warehouse, which is dated 1779, was originally close to the harbour of Bo'ness, but became separated from it when the harbour was developed in about 1880 by the North British Railway. It was probably built as both dwelling houses and warehouse, and later became a warehouse only. This shows the ground floor of the building. The keystone of the arched cart entrance is dated 1779. The building had three large chimney stacks, suggesting that it was designed to be inhabited, at least in part. The interior had been rebuilt in the late 19th century with hollow-tile floors on cast iron columns. This building was rehabilitated as a public library and flats in the 1970s to designs by Ian G Lindsay & Partners, with very little external alteration. The centre of Bo'ness, though very historic, was badly run down in the late 1960s, but has been to some extent revitalised since then. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
