Scope and Content Victoria Grain Mills, Nos 155-9 West Street, Glasgow These mills were founded by Hamilton & Manson, grain millers, in 1879. The building currently existing was built in three stages, the Flemish-gabled section in West Street in 1888, the similar block in Wallace Street in 1894-5, and the corner block with tower in 1896, all designed by W F McGibbon. This shows the frontage of the mills from the west, with the 1896 block on the corner, and the gabled block of 1888, with a later linking section. The building on the right is part of a dyeworks built in 1880 for James Mills, dyer. This photograph was taken when the buildings on the west side of West Street had been demolished in preparation for the construction of the M8 urban motorway. The grain mills have survived, having been used as warehousing for many years. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
