Scope and Content View from east showing junction between Rosyth Street and Rutherglen Road, Glasgow This long block of tenements dates from the late 19th century, and was built of red sandstone. The buildings were improved in 1970-3 by architects Macmillan & Morrison for the Christian Action Housing Association, but demolished in 1997. This photograph shows the four-storeyed tenements with their dome-roofed corner turrets. Some of the flats have bay windows, there are consoles under the dome, and ornamental cartouches which add interest to the design. Large blocks of tenements are a feature of the Glasgow townscape, and vary in design and status. They were designed to house large numbers of people in flats with central access stairs. Many 19th-century blocks are now being restored to modern standards. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
