Scope and Content Aerial view of a Roman fort and temporary camp at Dalginross, Perth and Kinross Dalginross is one of a series of forts, built in the late 1st century AD, to block the mouths of the Highland glens. The double ditches of the fort, bottom left, are clearly visible, as is the ditch of the surrounding annexe. To the right is the single ditch of the temporary camp with a distinctive type of out-turned entrance. Named after a site in Angus where this type of gate was first recognised, gates of Stracathro-type camps are protected by a semicircular extension of ditch and rampart (a clavicula) with an adjacent straight traverse on the opposite side of the entrance.
