Scope and Content Pointhouse Shipyard, Glasgow This yard, at the mouth of the River Kelvin and launching into it, was founded in 1862 by A & J Inglis, marine engineers, to build hulls for the engines and boilers they were building in Anderston. They added a boiler works in 1873-8. This shows part of the range of sheds along the eastern edge of the yard. The open-sided sheds were probably the platers' shops, and there was also a block which was probably the frame-bending shop. All the machinery had been removed by the time this photograph was taken. This yard, which built and repaired many Clyde steamers, was taken over by Harland & Wolff during World War I. They closed it in 1962, and it was demolished in 1965-6.
