Scope and Content Glenmhor Distillery, Telford Street, Inverness, Highland This distillery was built in 1892 by Mackinlay & Birnie, an offshoot of Charles Mackinlay & Co, whisky blenders, Leith. The firm was reconstructed in 1906 as Mackinlays & Birnie Ltd. The distillery was bought in 1972 by The Distillers' Co Ltd. This shows the distillery from the north-east, looking across the Caledonian Canal. The main range in this view is the maltings, and the kiln top can just be seen to the right of the elevator tower (left). The chimney (right) served the still house and boiler house. This was the first new distillery built at the start of the 1890s whisky boom. It was closed in 1983, during a slump in the industry, demolished, and the site sold for a supermarket.
