Scope and Content Hydro-electric power station, Inverness, Highland This hydro-electric power station was built in 1899, and was one of the first such built for public supply. It drew water from the River Ness to power low-head turbines. It was still in operation in 1965. This shows the curved descending sluice at the upstream side of the power station. The turbines were in the building to the rear. The sluice was lowered to control the flow of water to the station. This station was built on the site of the Bught Mill, a corn mill. It eventually passed into the ownership of the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board, who subsequently closed it down. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
