Scope and Content Drybrough's Brewery, Duddingston Road West, Edinburgh The area to the south of Duddingston village was developed for brewing in the late 19th century, after the opening of the Edinburgh, Suburban & Southside Junction Railway in 1884. This was one of six large breweries which were built in this area at that time. This shows the more recent part of the complex. The building on the left was probably a maltings, with the site of the brewery to the left. The building on the right was probably a beer store, with a bay for loading railway wagons. The railway is the Edinburgh, Suburban & Southside Junction, opened 1884. Drybrough & Co Ltd was founded by Andrew Drybrough in the early 19th century. It became a public limited company in 1895, perhaps at the time this brewery was built. In 1965 the concern was taken over by Watney Mann, an English company. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
