Scope and Content Sun Foundry, No 280 Kennedy Street, Glasgow The first part of this foundry was built in 1870-1 for George Smith & Co, artistic iron-founders. This firm, though less well-known than Walter Macfarlane & Co, rivalled it in the quality and variety of its products. This view shows the side elevation of the building to North Wallace Street, giving an idea of its depth. The rendering of this elevation and the enlargement of the windows gives this frontage a misleading impression of modernity. Sun Foundry ornamental products can still be found in Scotland and elsewhere, though they are often assumed to be Saracen Foundry castings. The foundry buildings have survived a series of secondary uses and still stand in 2002. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
