Scope and Content St Ann's Brewery, No 60 Abbeyhill, Edinburgh Founded by Robert Younger & Co in the early 19th century, this brewery was composed of a large complex of buildings of various dates, including a former distillery. The company also had a large maltings in Leith. This shows the block of malting floors, separated from the main brewery complex by Croft an Righ, the thoroughfare seen here. The malt-drying kiln was at the rear of the building. Youngers were taken over by Scottish Brewers in 1960, as part of a wave of takeovers that swept the British brewing industry. This brewery was closed shortly after, and the buildings used as stores. This block now serves as a depot for Historic Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
