Scope and Content Crownpoint Carpet Works, 14 St Marnock Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) This works was founded in 1855 by J and JS Templeton for the manufacture of Brussels carpets. The original part seems to have been a block of single-storey weaving sheds, extended in 1899. The front block was added in 1886 to designs by G and A Harvey. This view shows the works from the west, with the three storey office and preparation block. This was genuinely polychrome, with red, white and yellow bricks. The 1855 weaving sheds were behind this block. This factory continued in operation until 1967, making spool Axminster carpets. It was powered by two steam-driven generating sets, one with a horizontal engine by Fullerton, Hodgart and Barclay, and the other a vertical engine by Belliss and Morcom.
