Scope and Content Queen Street Station, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) This station was originally built as the Glasgow terminus of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway, but was substantially enlarged and rebuilt in 1878-80 by the North British Railway, to accommodate increasing passenger and goods traffic. This view shows the interior of the station from the south end. The overall roof was designed under the supervision of James Carsewell engineer of the North British Railway, and constructed by P and W MacLellan, Glasgow. The locomotive-hauled train on the left was typical of the early 1980s. This one was still steam-heated, as can be seen from the clouds round two of the carriages.
