Scope and Content Queen Street Station, Glasgow This station was originally built as the Glasgow terminus of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway, but was substantially enlarged and rebuilt in 1878-80 by the North British Railway, to accommodate increasing passenger and goods traffic. This view shows the station from the north east, with the overall roof in the background. This was designed under the supervision of James Carsewell engineer of the North British Railway, and constructed by P and W MacLellan, Glasgow. The bridge in the foreground carries Cathedral Street over the station, and was built by Smith and Naysmith, of Kinning Park, a firm about whom little is known.
